Hugh Carola, Program Director, Hackensack Riverkeeper©, director of the Fyke Nature Association, longtime birder and amateur naturalist. Hugh has lead walks for the Friends at the Mehrhof Nature Preserve. Two thousand and one is the first year that he will be leading a walk for us along the Greenway. He will also lead the walk at the Allendale Celery Farm Nature Preserve.
Wally Cowan has been a longtime resident of the Township. He and his wife, Ruth, have traveled the world on birder expeditions. He is the longtime chair of Teaneck's Parks, Playgrounds, and Recreation Advisory Board and a member of the Hackensack River Greenway Advisory Board. Wally is the 2001 recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Bergen County Dept. of Parks
Angela Cristini received her Ph.D. in Biology from the City University of New York. She is a Professor of Biology and is the Executive Director of Special Programs including the Meadowlands Environment Center and the Masters of Educational Technology. Dr. Cristini has grants in science education from the National Science Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Education including her current project connecting older adults to the Meadowlands Environment Center using live Internet conferencing.
Doctor Dubious has been performing jazz in the New Orleans and Chicago styles since 1998 in the tri-state area. They have performed at every Teaneck First Night since 1998; for First Night Montclair 2005; and for numerous public, corporate and private events.
Helene Fall has been Teaneck's Municipal Manager since June 2001. Her first job in township administration was as the Assistant to Teaneck's Township Manager 1985-89. Between stints in Teaneck she worked in Bernards, Basking Ridge and Montvale before returning to Teaneck as Deputy Municipal Manger at the end of 1998.
Ms. Fall has a Master of Public Administration Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with Honors from Douglass College (Double Major - Political Science and Italian Literature and Language).
She is a member of the International City and County Management Association, New Jersey Municipal Management Association, and Phi Beta Kappa Society and servers on the Township's Planning Board and the Redevelopment Agency
Ms. Fall is married and lives in Teaneck.
Jane Furman is vice president of the Bergen County Master Gardeners, Bergen County Representative to the State Master Gardeners, past president, current board member of the Garden Club of Teaneck, and member of the Environmental Commission and Friends membership committee.
Bob Griffin, former Teaneck Township Historian, operates Bergen Historical Books, is recent past president of the Bergen County Historical Society and is the chair of the Historic New Bridge Landing Park Commission. He is also involved in genealogical research

Michael Hakim is licensed both as a Landscape Architect and Professional Planner, and is president of Hakim Associates in Harrington Park. He is an Adjunct Professor of both Land Use Planning and Environmental Planning in FDU's Graduate School of Natural Sciences. He planned and designed sections of the Hackensack River Greenway for Teaneck, Hackensack, Bergen County, and FDU. He prepared the environmental inventories and planning studies that will form the background work to enable a continuation of the greenway through Haworth, Closter, Harrington Park, and Old Tappan. Mike designed the outdoor classroom and access trails for the Teaneck Creek Conservancy. He prepared the planning study for Ridgefield Park's Nature Preserve. He is integrally and professionally involved in watershed issues in River Vale. In the past he served as an integral member of the restoration teams for Ellis Island and Central Park. Mike hikes, bikes and plays tennis for recreation.

Jim Ilgenfritz is Certified Tree Expert and chairs Teaneck's Arboretum Areas Committee. A resident of Teaneck since 1999, he serves on the Board of the Friends of the Greenway and the Parks, Playgrounds and Recreation Advisory Board. He is also employed by four Bergen County towns to work on their tree projects. This year he was awarded the designation as Certified Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture.
Norma Goetz is very involved in the environmental issues concerning Teaneck. She is a member of the Environmental Commission, the Hackensack River Greenway Advisory Board, the Shade Tree Advisory Board, and the Friends of the Greenway Board. Before retirement she worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist and a Learning Disabilities Consultant.
Lou Kahn serves on the Board of the Friends. He is married with two children and has lived in Teaneck for 40 years. Received has BS from Cortland State and an MS from William Paterson. Taught Special Education 31 years, retired. Worked in summer overnight and day camps. Interested in nature subjects since a child. Learned: "Evidence of Man " walks while student teaching in school camping in New Hampshire.

Harry Kissileff has been a nature interpreter since 1957, when he served as naturalist on the first camp staff at Resica Falls Scout Reservation in the Poconos. He has been a trail guide at Flat Rock Brook and has led community nature walks for Congregation Beth Sholom. He is a member of the National Association for Interpretation, the professional organization of docents in nature and historical interpretation. His interest in the Hackensack River Greenway began when, as Chair of the Environmental Commission, he obtained a grant under the Commission's auspices to have Hakim Associates prepare a preliminary plan for the Greenway, in 1995. He currently serves on the Greenway advisory board, as well as on the Shade Tree Advisory Board and chairs the Environmental Commission.

Marion McClary, Jr., Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and Associate Director of Biological Sciences at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck. Prof. McClary is a long-time member of Teaneck's Hackensack River Greenway Advisory Board. Prof. McClary was graduated from Teaneck High School in 1986, received his BS in Marine Science from Richard Stockton College, and his Ph.D. in Marine Zoology from Duke University in 1997. In 1997 and 1998 he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Georgia State University.
Al Milch has spotted more than 1,700 different bird species in a lifetime of bird watching. Al has been a birder since 1934 and a resident of Teaneck for almost 45 years. He has traveled the world in pursuit of his hobby, including trips to Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, Madagascar, Hawaii and, recently, the Negev in Israel.

Richard Kirk Mills is an environmental artist and educator. Rick, a Teaneck resident, is Professor of Fine Art at Long Island University's CW Post campus. He is the creator of the Hackensack River Stories Project, a series of 16 public art signworks that evoke life of, in and along the Hackensack River. This Greenway project has already won several awards. Mr. Mills' commitment to the environment and his hometown is reflected by his service at various times on the Township's Parks, Playgrounds and Recreation Advisory Board, the Hackensack River Greenway Advisory Board, the Environmental Commission and the Planning Board. He leads many of the walks sponsored by the Friends of the Greenway and he contributes to the Teaneck public schools' curriculum on art and the environment. Jim Norman is a respected naturalist, amateur boat builder and photographer. He is also a member of the Teaneck Camera Club.
Dr. George Reskakis, vice president of the Friends, is an avid environmentalist and birder with viewing experience from Jamaica Bay to Belize. George. A Teaneck resident for over 15 years, is the chairman of the Parks, Playgrounds and Recreation Advisory Board, a member of the Greenway Advisory Board, and a Trustee for Teaneck Creek Conservancy. A former scout leader, he has coached baseball soccer and basketball. George is a dentist with a practice in Manhattan.
Larry Robertson is the official Teaneck Township Historian, well known for his guided walks in town. He is a member of the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a retired Deputy Fire Chief. Larry has lived in Teaneck since 1948.
Ken Scarlatelli operates Northeast Environmental Management Systems, is a wetlands scientist and certified wildlife biologist and is a member of the design team for the Teaneck Creek Conservancy.
Captain Bill Sheehan, the Hackensack Riverkeeper, is a lifelong resident of the Hackensack River area, having lived most of his life in Union City and Secaucus, New Jersey. His is a dedicated, active conservationist who founded Hackensack Riverkeeper in 1997 and serves as the organization's Executive Director. Captain Bill holds a Master of Inland Waterways license from the US Coast Guard.
Capt. Bill is a member of many environmental and public interest organizations, serving most of them in a leadership capacity. He is a Principal Partner in the Hackensack Meadowlands Partnership, a Founding Member of the Hackensack River Watershed Fund and the former Meadownlands Issues Coordinator for the New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club. Most notably, Captain Bill served for two years (2003-04) as Chairman of the Bergen County Trust Fund Public Advisory Committee and is the current Chair of the Meadowlands Conservation Trust; the latter being the State Board charged with identifying and facilitating the acquisition of open space in the Meadowlands and throughout the Watershed of the Hackensack River.
Capt. Bill has been recognized for his work on numerous occasions by the media, government and the environmental community including the New Jersey Audobon Society's 1996 Conservationist of the Year Award and the 1999 Annual National Clearwater Award for excellence on the waterfront from the Waterfront Center in Washington, DC. In 2002 the US Fish and Wildlife Service recognized him for his work on behalf of Meadowlands conservation.
In 2003, he and the organization received the Environmental Excellence Award from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. Also that year, Capt. Bill was named Bergen County's Person of the Year by County Executive Dennis McNerney. In 2004 River Network honored him as one of America's River Heroes.
When is not leading Eco-Cruises, chairing meetings, or otherwise advocating for the Hackensack watershed, Capt. Bill enjoys rock and roll music, movies and fishing for Striped bass in his favorite river.

Sue Shutte s the Resource Interpretive Specialist at the Steuben House, a State-owned historic site listed on both the State of New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places. She received her bachelor's degree in architectural history from Rutgers University and her master's degree from Cornell University in Historic Preservation Planning. Prior to working at the Steuben House, Ms. Shutte was employed at Ringwood State Park and Ringwood Manor. Her main interests include architectural history, historic preservation, historic landscapes, and the social history of the late 18th century through early 20th century period in America.

Nancy Slowik is Director-naturalist of Greenbrook Sanctuary, 165 acres nature preserve along the Palisades in Bergen County. She has held this position since 1989. Prior to this she was co-founder of a pilot program initiating native plant propagation and restoration program for New York City Parks Department in the Staten Island Greenbelt. She has also been a Naturalist-instructor for NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs at High Rock Park in Staten Island and an Interpretive Naturalist for National Parks Service-Gateway NRA in Staten Island. Nancy is considered a leading expert in the wild plant life of this area.

Wayne Thoen and his wife, Barbara, have been residents of Teaneck for over thirty years-moving here from California. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin and spending over twenty years in marketing consumer products for major corporations, Wayne changed his focus to Financial Planning and worked in that industry until he retired in 2002. In addition to his involvement in environmental organizations in Teaneck, he and his wife are avid sailors and skiers and enjoy exploring and charting Bergen County waterways on their mountain bikes. Wayne is also actively involved in the construction of sailing ship models as well as the restoration of old ship models for his yacht club.

Mary S. Topolsky is a garden designer with a design, installation and maitenance firm in Northern New Jersey. She has designed gardens as far away as Vancouver Island, Canada and North Carolina, as well as locally. A frequent lecturer and educator on all things green, Mary holds a Certificate in Landscape Design from New York Botantical Gardens. For the past 38 years she has been a resident of Teaneck. Mary is currently a member of Teaneck's Hackensack River Greenway Advisory Board.
Mike Trepicchio has been a resident of Teaneck since 1997. He has been fishing, exploring, and boating the Hackensack River from the Oradell Dam southward for more than 30 years.
Jordan and Kathy Wouk have provided leadership for the Friends of the Hackensack River Greenway through Teaneck as the founders of the group. The Wouks, committed environmentalists, have lived in Teaneck since 1981 and have been involved in the Greenway effort for more than ten years. They first led this long walk in 1993. In addition to being past president of the Friends, Jordan serves the Teaneck community on the Planning Board, the Parks Advisory Board (for over 15 years) and chairs the Hackensack River Greenway Advisory Board.
Kevin Wright is a noted historian and for 20 years was the curator of the von Steuben house at Historic New Bridge Landing. Kevin is currently Resource Interpretive Specialist in the northern region, NJ Division of Parks and Forestry.
